Web Conference 3/6/2011 at 5:00PM
I participated in the viral web conference on March 6, 2011 beginning at 5:00 pm. Being that this was by first web conference to be a part of I found it very confusing and chaotic at times. The questions were all over the place and it seemed as though many people were just typing without reading others responses. Even Dr. Abernathy seemed flustered by the abundant of redundant questions at times.
However, even though the web conference was chaotic, it was very beneficial at clarified some of the problems and question about this class. Dr. Abernathy responded to many questions concerning the book study, navigation tools, discussion board, ILD trainings, and internship portfolios. The topic of TK20 was also brought to my attention. Before the web conference I was in the dark about what a TK20 was and how I was to use it for my internship portfolio.
I believe that web conferencing could be very beneficial in the classroom and would like to see this incorporated into our school district. Web conferencing such as this could be used between district campuses or throughout the state, nation or even global level. Our student’s could learn a great deal of culture and world views in a world geography or a economics class by web conferencing with schools from across the globe.

U.S. Department of Technology Education Plan - Urgent Status
The US Department of Education Draft Technology Plan came about under the Obama administration. This plan has given urgent priority to two education goals. This first goal states, “By 2020, we will raise the proportion of college graduates from where it now stands (41 percent) so that 60 percent of our population holds a two-year or four-year degree.” The second urgent goal states, “We will close the achievement gap so that all students graduate from high school ready to succeed in college and careers” (Office of Educational Technology, U.S. Department of Education, pg.5). This plan presents five goals that address the key components of this urgent priority such as, learning, assessing, teaching, infrastructure, and productivity. Along with these goals, the plan has giving recommendations within each of these five goals that address our states, districts, the federal government, and other stakeholders involved in our students education process. The feedback provide from these goals are beneficial for teachers and administration who are hoping to prepare their students for higher level or postsecondary education training.
However, I believe that these goals will be very difficult to attain. With the state of our current school districts and state’s financial debt, how can we possibly continue to educate these students’ and expect at 19 percent increase of success without financial support from our national and state government? Secondly, it is hard to understand why we are raising this number of college graduates to such a high level when some students are not mentally or financial equip to attend a two or four year university. The price of college is on a continued rise. Many of our students first priority is how to survive in this economically challenged society. Unless the government is willing to financial support these students college degrees with more than “just basic support”, many of our young people will not be able to financial support themselves to attend this higher level of education.

Texas Long Range Plan for Technology - Summary
The Texas Long Range Plan for Technology was an educational technology plan designed for students, teachers, campuses, and districts to begin incorporating technology into the educational classroom setting. This plan was first written for 1988-2000 and was one of the nation’s first educational technology plans.. The latest Long Range Plan for Technology, which was adopted in 2006 and will prepare students until 2020, has implemented new evolving technologies that our 21st century students are facing and how to employ these technology lessons into the classroom settings. This plan has provided numerous technology learning opportunities for students and teachers alike.
The goal for the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology of 2006-2020 is to encourage online learning, digital content, curriculum and student management systems, and online professional development into our school systems (Texas long range plan for technology. (n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index2.aspx?id=5082&menu_id=2147483665). Schools have begun to embrace new technology in order to build for their students’ technology futures. Teachers and other educators are becoming mentors for students and themselves. This technology growth will increase student and teacher achievement and will prepare both to become 21st century technology learners. The Texas Long Range Plan for Technology Plan is an important tool to teach our students how to become lifelong learners and how to become successful in our ever change technology world.

STaR Chart - Educator Prepration
The Texas Long Range Plan of Technology, 2006-2020 addresses a technology plan for students, teachers, and staff across the state of Texas. These four areas included: Teaching and learning, Educator Preparation and Development, Leadership, Administration, and Instructional support, and Infrastructure for Technology.
My campus is currently at the advanced tech level in Educator and Preparation of the Texas STaR chart. This states that our campus integrates technology into our teaching and learning, online resources are in regular used, sixty percent of our teachers meet SBEC standards, and 25-29% of technology budget is allocated for professional development
(Star chart statewide data. (n.d.). Retrieved
fromhttp://starchart.esc12.net/docs/campusSWSummarybyKA20092010.pdf). This is relatively high compared to the over state of Texas. According to the STaR chart, a majority of the state’s campuses are at the developing tech level with sixty eight percent of the state’s campus meeting this level. Only twenty six percent of the state is at the advanced tech of educator preparation.
Our Educator Preparation trends have continued to increase over the past three years; however, to keep up with our technology minded students our teachers and administration must continue to challenge themselves with professional development opportunities. Professional development opportunities that help our teachers created and implement technology lessons into the classroom should be our first course of action. Currently, we have a technology specialist that could be incorporated into lesson and technology planning activities. We must encourage our teachers to use our technology specialist through classroom activities. Our teachers must use the specialist as a technology tool to incorporating technology into lessons, development, and instruction for our students and teachers education benefits.
